Principal's Welcome

Principal Wilberg

Dear Cabrillo families,

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year! I hope you were able to have a safe, restful, and rejuvenating summer.
We are so thrilled to be welcoming our students back to campus, and we are committed to ensuring the safety of everyone at Cabrillo as we begin this new year.

In order to bring students back safely, we will have COVID-19 safety policies in effect, so please be sure to familiarize yourselves with them here. Namely, all students are required to wear masks on our school sites. If you’re able, please send your student to school with a spare mask. By working together to diligently implement safety measures, we can keep our students healthy and ensure they have a fun, engaging, and productive school year.

I would like to extend a special welcome to the TK and Kindergarten families who will be joining the Cabrillo community for the first time this year!  Our teachers and staff have been working hard to get ready to meet you and guide you through the beginning of your education.  Starting school is such a momentous and memorable time – we are excited to share it with you. For those families who are new to our school, we’re so happy to have you! If we have not met, I’m Lisa Wilberg, principal here at Cabrillo. This is my third year as principal here, and I still feel so lucky to work with such incredible students, teachers, and staff.  Prior to my time at Cabrillo, I taught and worked as assistant principal down the street at Dana Middle School.  I look forward to meeting all of our new cubs and families soon!

I would also like to extend a special thank you to our custodial staff, office staff, and district office staff for all of the work they put in this summer to help us get ready for the school year.  Our campus is looking so beautiful and ready for our cubs to arrive! Also, thank you to the many teachers who took time out from summer to learn and prepare for this new year; you are truly appreciated!

As we begin this school year, we recognize that while there are challenges to be faced, there is also much hopefulness and joy.  After a period of separation that was only partially improved through hybrid learning in the spring, our students are now able to once again enjoy a full school experience.  They will eat, play, learn, and grow together each day.  While their smiles may be covered by masks, we know we will have many happy students and staff members who are grateful to be together again.  We are also very aware of the social-emotional needs and challenges that our students may be facing, as we make this momentous return to campus.  Our CARE team of counselors will continue to offer a range of lessons and services to support our school community.

Please stay tuned to upcoming newsletters for more dates and information. As a reminder, the school year will begin on Tuesday, August 31. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call our office at (310) 725-5400 or email me at
We appreciate your partnership as we learn and grow together. I can’t wait to see you soon!
